Fallout 76 Game Optimizations & Mods

Fallout 76 is a game notorious for having an assortment of visual bugs as well as ones for game mechanics. Luckily, the Fallout community has been quite helpful in both sharing info with one another on how to better optimize the game through configuration updates as well as with mods. As such info is quite scattered across the web, this section is meant to be a centralized (yet condensed) resource for the best game modifications. Anything on this page, we highly recommend you use as they will most likely enhance your overall experience in Appalachia. Since there are varying levels of video cards, we’ve set this page up to where you can select mods and optimizations based on the robustness of your discreet graphics. Whichever tier you select, any mods on lesser tiers are also usable. However for performance reason we don’t recommend going the other way unless you explicitly know what you’re doing.

Below are some of the more commonly occurring game issues in Fallout 76 along with the solutions to fix them.

This bug has been around for some time now, and can be quite annoying. The issue causing it is the mutation Healing Factor. To fix, you would need to remove this mutation by using Radaway, which can happen the first time or could be the very last one since its random. Once you’ve removed it, you shouldn’t experience the fast travel bug anymore.

PS – Don’t forget to unequip any perks that are meant to retain your mutations before trying to remove healing factor.

This is a common occurence and can happen randomly it seems, even right after it successfully working. If this happens, travel to a location with an event. Once you’ve done this, travel back to wherever you were and you should be able to see the trade option again. Unfortunately, if it happens again you will need to travel to an event again to fix.

Not sure what causes this, but the fix is to open My Documents -> My Games -> Fallout 76 -> Fallout76Prefs.ini using a text editor and to add/update the following lines:

[Water]
bUseWaterHiRes=1

Usually caused by certain visual mods that need to be updated. Below are some of the mods to check:

  • Chat Mod
  • Any Mod using SFE
  • Any health bar mod
  • Any notification related mod
